meet kjk

hey there!

I'm Koiya, the one behind the camera + the owner of kjkphotographs!

It's been almost a year since I began to make this little dream of mine into a business and it gets better and better every single day. I have met some amazing families and added so many people to the kjk family. Over the last year that I have had my business clients have turned into friends so it got me thinking... I came into 2018 wanting to add more "me" into my business. So I figured what better way then to divide my blog up into different categories. My kjk family and my life... with this new section of my blog I hope to give you a little peek into what my life is all about and show you all of the things that mean the most to me! After all, you all let me be a part of such significant memories and share your homes with me, so I figured I should be doing the same with you!

Ready for a bunch of random facts? I was raised in a small town in Michigan. Dog lover, passionate coffee drinker, striving every day to be the best human I can be. I've always had a passion for photography and for capturing moments that I wish could last forever. Whether it be tiny baby toes or wet doggie noses, I can guarantee I have a photo of it. I am a people person and love to make people smile. I pride myself on being compassionate, kind and dependable. I've been married to my husband, Brian since 2015 and I am a Mom to two adorable fur babies, Bentley and Bernard! I am a coffee addict, seriously it's a problem. Finding cute coffee shops that make hearts in my latte foam has become a hobby of mine. I love all things gray, white and barn wood. I am a golden light chaser for sure. I am obsessed with the beautiful colors of sunrises and sunsets. I love the look of dark and moody photographs but I always gravitate towards bold color and brightness when I edit my sessions. Brunch is one of the best things ever created. I love being up north. Traverse City has my heart. In 2016, with the support of my loving husband, I decided to pursue my passion and begin to learn all the hard work that goes into being a photographer. I have the utmost respect for each and every one of you that puts themselves out there and follows their dreams! It definitely isn't always easy, but let me tell you, it is so worth it! After working in customer service, retail and the medical field, I can finally say that I love my job!! I love to laugh and play with my clients and catch those in-between moments that no one expects to be adorable. I love that I get to watch newborns and families grow throughout the years. I love meeting new people and getting to be a part of their family for a few hours while I capture their memories. But, I think my favorite part about it all is getting to see and hear the excitement that people get when I deliver their gallery of all of the memories that we captured together. I am forever learning and I am so excited to continue the journey that comes along with the learning experience!
